But What If I Want To Yodel?

But What If I Want To Yodel?

Do you have a special talent you want to cultivate? I know I have a few. One is to yodel, and of course my initial impulse is to cast a spell to aid in developing this ability. I know practice is going to be involved – you get nothing without working for it – but, maybe, a little boost to help would be nice.

If you go to the shelves of any mystical shop, or look in spell books, you will not always see spells that fit your exact needs. However, you can find a lot of things that strengthen the “ingredients” of what you want to accomplish.

The first thing to do is figure out what you need. For yodeling, I will need breath control and a strong voice. Throat and lungs will be an area of concentration here. Arguably, I will also need some musical understanding and rhythm. These ingredients open a lot of methods to approach the spell.

Starting with colors, I am choosing Blue, since it is associated with the throat chakra. For herbs I choose lotus root, as it’s all about the airflow and lung strength. For assistance of a higher power I choose Bragi, the Norse god with a poetry and music specialty. That’s enough for one ask, since I like to keep things simple. A small chant or prayer and I am good to go.

I have decided to include the small chant. Here it is:
I light this little candle blue,
make this tea for me and you
Bragi, please help me through
learning yodel-ay-he-hoo.

A lot of spell work is about going from the general to the specific like this. The coming together of your “ingredients” helps you focus on what energy you will have to manifest and expend to reach your goals. For me, the candle will be burned for Bragi, but remind me to take care of my throat, the lotus root will be brewed into a tea for offering and sipping, and remind me to pay attention to my breathing, bringing the power of air deep into my lungs for maximum yodeling effect. And Bragi? Bragi is there to remind me of how much music there is in the world, and to encourage me to add my voice to the universal choir.

Speaking of voices, mine is pretty quiet in person. I think this is so for a lot of shy people. It is important to be heard, though, and so I am going to do the following spell to become louder. Feel free to join me, or adjust it to your liking if you, too, want to be heard the first time.

Let’s start with a Red candle, for power, passion, and to connect with the root chakra, which is the first chakra and so also ties (in my mind) with the First Amendment.

Cardamom is my herb for this – crushed or whole pods. This is to manifest boldness. I prefer to burn the crushed pod on a charcoal pat, or brew the whole seeds with a cup of coffee.

I leave it to you to choose your favored entity.

A possible short, loud prayer:
Red candle burns with fiery passion
Scent/taste of cardamom for speech as action
[Entity] hold my hand as I fashion
Loud words of Strength and Truth.
